Mughal Road re-opening: Men, machinery reach Peer Ki Gali from Poonch side

After carrying out snow clearance operation on Mughal Road for 42 days, men and machinery of the mechanical engineering department finally reached Pir Ki Gali from Poonch side Saturday evening.

The traffic police however has decided not to allow movementof traffic on the road for next few days due to some risky patches andapprehensions of slides.

   

Assistant Engineer of the mechanical engineering department,Tariq Mehmood, who was leading the snow clearance operation, told GreaterKashmir that a team of the department comprising twelve officials along withJCBs, snow cutters, one heavy machine and dozers had remained on snow clearanceoperation for forty two days on the Mughal Road.

He said the snow clearance operation also remain stalled fora week due to strike by protesters.

The AE mechanical engineering department, Tariq Mehmood saidthe men and machinery reached Pir Ki Gali from Poonch side after clearing snow.

“From Bufliyaz to Ratta Chamb Morh, the road is openfor two lane, but from Ratta Chamb Morh to Peer Ki Gali, the road is open forsingle lane,” Mehmood added.

When asked about restoration of traffic on the road, theofficer said they have opened the road and handed it over to Mughal Roadproject authorities and the decision to allow the traffic falls within thedomain of the police, the traffic and the civil administration and the MughalRoad project authorities.

Deputy SP Traffic, Rajouri Poonch range, Mohammad Rafiq saidhe himself visited Mughal Road on Sunday morning and took stock of road.

“At some places, the road is not fully OK for vehicularmovement and there is some need to further cut the snow from sides. Along withthis, there are some spots where there are chances of slides for which somemore work of clearance is needed,” the DSP Traffic.

The officer said that concerned authorities have assured towork on these aspects and he will again visit the road after two days andthereafter the decision to allow traffic will be taken.

Assistant executive engineer from Mughal Road project, LiyaqitAli told Greater Kashmir that the road has been opened from Bufliyaz to Pir KiGali but there is need of improvement on some spots for which two more workingdays are required.

“After we complete some minor improvements, we will askpolice to allow traffic,” the AEE said.
