My struggle is for restoration, dignity of J&K: Mehbooba

Former chief minister and president, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said that no Parliament could have scrapped Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir but BJP did it unconstitutionally alleging “BJP backtracked from all the commitments made with PDP at the time of government formation.”

She was addressing a largely attended public gathering in Rajouri on the last day of her three days’ tour of Pir Panjal region.

Addressing the gathering, Mehbooba Mufti said that Article 370 was not only a special status of Jammu and Kashmir but was a guardian for the people and BJP unconstitutionally scrapped it as no parliament in the world could have scrapped it constitutionally.

“The BJP government is itself the biggest violator of the constitution of India and is bringing new laws in parliament following unconstitutional means.” said Mehbooba. Further hitting hard at former ally of her party in Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti said that there were many conditions that BJP agreed upon with PDP at the time of government formation which included no scrapping of Article 370, revocation of AFSPA soon after peace is restored in Jammu and Kashmir, return of power projects of Jammu and Kashmir and opening of more and more border routes that included Kargil Skardu route, Nowshera Bhimber Mirpur route.

“They later back tracked from all these commitments.” Mehbooba said.

She further said that Former Prime Minister of India, Late. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a tall political figure of India who, on the instance of Late. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, opened a new chapter of talks with Kashmiris, Hurriyat and with Pakistan also and even implemented a ceasefire on borders and restored peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

“After PDP’s former alliance with BJP in the previous state government, our one of the main demands was for resumption of talks where Mr. Vajpayee had left but no development was made on this aspect also.” Mehbooba further said.

“Late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed joined hands with BJP only and only for the sake of people of BJP.” she further said.

She also said that three innocent boys from Rajouri were recently killed in Kashmir’s Shopian in a staged encounter which is a clear instance of misuse of power under AFSPA.

” There are a number of government agencies like ED which are used by BJP to push those to walls who speak against Government.” Mehbooba further said.

Former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti also said that power is not my goal and my struggle is not to be Chief Minister and focus is the struggle for restoration of dignity and honour which was snatched from us.

” If the need arises and situation demands, we have several people in the party  who are capable enough to be the Chief Minister.” she further opined.
