Peeri, Kotedhara residents irked over dilapidated roads, stage protests

The residents of Kotedhara and Peeri staged a day-long protest on Monday and blocked the local roads to show their resentment against the government for dilapidated roads in their areas.

The locals assembled at Peer -Kotedhara road chowk, where they were joined in by transporters. The agitators raised slogans against local authorities and the state government. “The authorities and the government have neglected us. They do not care at all. They are absolutely careless towards the plight of the masses,” the protesters alleged.

They also claimed that thousands of people live in the area from Khandli to Peeri, including Kotedhara, and have to suffer daily due to the dilapidated roads, especially Kotedhara road and Peeri road. “We staged a protest months ago while demanding repair of the road. The authorities assured us that the roads would be repaired immediately, but it has been so many months and nothing has been done,” they complained.

The protest lasted for more than five hours which an Assistant Executive Engineer and SHO Rajouri visited the spot and managed to pacify the protesters. They assured the people that the repair work would be started within a few days, after which the protest was called off.
