Police detain 3 persons in Rajouri Trio claiming to be nationals of Nepal had no identity proof: Police

Security forces claimedto have detained three persons on Tuesday morning, who were travellingallegedly “without having any valid identification”.

The trio wason way to Ladakh from Jammu via the Mughal Road, officials said, adding thatall the three were detained at joint check post of army and police at Dehra KiGali on Rajouri – Thanamandi – Surankote Road.

   

Officials told Greater Kashmir thatduring routine checking at the joint check post, the soldiers on duty foundthat the three individuals claiming to be Nepali citizens who were going to Lehvia Srinagar on the Mughal Road “were without any valid ID proof”.

On beingquestioned at the check post, the trio said they were a group of individualsfrom Nepal travelling from Jammu to Leh for work.

“On checking, it was found that they had noID proof to prove their nationality,” officials added.

As per bureauof immigration, Nepalese citizens do not need any passport or visa for travelto India but a valid ID proof to establish their citizenship, officials furthersaid.

“In view of the prevailing situation inthe valley, the three individuals were not permitted to go beyond and werehanded over to Thanamandi police for further investigation and necessaryactions as per the law,” officials said.

Senior superintendent of police, Rajouri, Yougal Manhas said the threewere presently under questioning in Thanamandi police station.

“There is no other issue except that thetrio does not have any ID proof and we are questioning to ascertain their claimof being Nepali. Once their identity is proved, they will be released,” the SSPsaid.
