Policeman’s missing rifle recovered in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir

The service rifle of a policeman missing since last week was recovered from Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official said today.

He said the automatic rifle was recovered by the police from Shanker Nagar locality of Poonch town during an intensive search operation.

   

“Yes, we have recovered the weapon and more details will be shared soon,” SSP Poonch Rajiv Pandey told Greater Kashmir.

“Soon after the missing, investigation into the matter was started and it was suspected that someone might have kept the weapon hidden in any blind site and in last few days, different teams under the supervision of AdSP Poonch Anwar Ul Haq and overall supervision of Ssp Poonch Rajiv Pandey conducted searches in more than one hundred such blind spots and other suspected locations in and around Poonch town,” said the official.

“Last night, a search operation was launched by police teams headed by DySP DAR Mohan Sharma, DySP Operations Bhishm Dubey and SHO SP Singh and locations in Shanker Nagar locality were  being put to searches when cops entered a Nallah where the said missing AK weapon was found kept hidden.”

High alert was sounded and the policeman suspended after his rifle went missing from district police lines Poonch last week.
