Power, water crisis irk Harni Ari residents

The residents of Harni Ari village in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district on Monday staged a demonstration against the power development department and public health engineering department over the prevailing water and power crisis in their area.

The protesters told Greater Kashmir that the position of water and power supply in their area is unsatisfactory. “Erratic power supply has been prevailing in the area since the past several days and crisis it is leading to malfunctioning of all lift water supply schemes,” they said.

   

The irked locals alleged, “The callous approach on the part of both public health engineering department and power development department is taking a toll on us. Why are we being forced to suffer?”

Due to the protest, Mendhar-Harni-Surankote road remained blocked for about an hour, after which a team of police and civil administration officials reached the spot and pacified the protesters.

Meanwhile, the people living in Manoor Gala village area of Rajouri staged a demonstration against power development department and blocked the Rajouri-Kotranka-Budhal road for over an hour.

A police officer said, “At about 9:15 am, a large number of villagers assembled on the main road and blocked it. They raised slogans against the power development department.”

The protesters alleged that the prevailing power crisis has thrown normal life out of gear and the common masses are bearing the brunt. “Time and again, we raised the issue with the concerned authorities, but things have not improved,” they added.

After about one-and-a-half-hour-long protest, a team of police and officials from the concerned department reached the spot and pacified the situation, assuring the protesters that their problem will be resolved at an earliest.
