A pregnant woman died on Monday afternoon, here in the district hospital, after which the district administration Tuesday ordered a probe to ascertain the facts that led to the death.
In its official communication, an officer of the district administration said, “As per the reports collected so far, it has been learnt that on April 7, a pregnant woman, identified as Rubina Kouser, wife of Abdul Majeed and a resident of Leeran Darhal, was admitted in district hospital, Rajouri. Reportedly, the gynecologist on the duty told the woman that she would need a caesarean (surgery) to deliver the baby, but the attendants refused.”
“Later, during medical examination of the patient, it is also came to the fore that she is anaemic,” an officer said, while quoting the report submitted by the hospital administration.
Furthermore, the officer said, the doctors had reportedly also referred the patient to a higher hospital for advanced treatment. “Free transportation had also been arranged, but the attendants refused,” he said.
On Monday morning, the officer said, between 10 and 11 am, the woman delivered a dead baby and also went into postpartum haemorrhage. She, later, died.
“However, some messages have been circulated on social media, wherein it has been alleged that the woman died due to negligence of staff, he said, adding, “Now, in order to cross verify all the facts and to re-examine the investigation reports, the deputy commissioner has constituted an inquiry committee.”
The committee will be headed by assistant commissioner, revenue, while chief medical officer and chief animal husbandry officer will be the members.
