Protest continues in Darhal, ‘Rajouri chalo’ today

The ongoing protest and dharna in Darhal entered into the third consecutive day on Sunday and the locals have given out a call for ‘Rajouri Chalo’ on Monday.

The dharna started on Friday after locals framed a Joint Action Committee and announced indefinite agitation against the state government for ignoring Darhal while sanctioning new government college in the state. The agitation has continued ever since and several locals sat on dharna in the town, while hundreds also took out a protest rally.

The protesters raised anti-government slogans and alleged step-motherly treatment. They said, “The present government is following all possible means to crush the aspirations of people of Darhal. The local hospital is in shambles with most of the posts of regular doctors lying vacant.” They also decried on the shortage of other basic amenities.

Meanwhile, after a meeting of locals held in Darhal, Rajouri Chalo call was given by locals of the area under the banner of Joint Action Committee. “We are not demanding anything extra-ordinary, but are demanding our right for higher education and the government should come out and tell us the reason due to which Darhal has been ignored while sanctioning new colleges,” said Advocate Zahid Malik, Convener of JAC Darhal.

Meanwhile JAC members from Darhal appealed people from all sections of society to attend the ‘Rajouri Chalo’ march.
