A daylong seminar on ‘rise of drug abuse among youth of Pir Panchal’ was held, here at Mandi on Sunday.
The seminar was held on the directions of M Raju, excise commissioner, and deputy excise commissioner S Amarjeet Singh. It was organized jointly by the excise department, in association with Youth Association for Service of Humanity and Nation (YASHN).
Speaking on the occasion, inspector excise sub-range, Poonch, Mohammad Arif explained the reasons behind drug addiction and its consequences, including health hazard, risk involved and penal provisions under NDPS Act.
Imtiaz Salaria, president YASHN, appealed to the civil society, parents and religious scholars to come forward and create awareness regarding the menace and to uproot it from the region.
Speaking on the occasion, commandant 137 Bn BSF Gajraj Yadav, prominent leaders Taj Mir and Bar association president, Poonch, also appealed the parents to keep a watch on their wards and their activities on a daily basis.
Pardeep Khana, Varinder Singh Pawar, Farooq Ahmed Tanha, Mudasir Bhukhari, Hamid Nabaaz, Dr Mohammad Qayoom, Dr Mohammad Abaas, Mohammed Farooq Khan, Abrar Akhter, Imran Gani, Mohammed Pervaiz, Ruksar Akhter and Sajaad Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
