Smooth voting in Rajouri, Poonch: Authorities

Government authorities here Thursday claimed that the voting for the parliamentary elections in Rajouri and Poonch went smooth and no major incident relating to law and order took place.

Senior superintendent of police Rajouri, Yougal Manhas toldGreater Kashmir that voting across the district remained incident-free.

   

“Complaints and information regarding someirregularities at some polling stations were received throughout the day andthe teams including the magistrates were rushed and issues were resolved.”said SSP.

He said except verbal duel between workers of differentparties at a few polling stations across the district, “no law and orderproblem took place and authorities did not use force at even a single pollinglocation”.

He said that tight security arrangements were put in placeacross the district and different security agencies worked in a closelycoordinated manner to thwart any attempt to interfere in the smooth votingprocess.

SSP Yougal Manhas also said that people from Kotedharaabstained from voting in the morning hours over shifting of polling station andrequirement of basic amenities. “But both the issues were settled immediatelyafter it came to notice of administration and both these areas witnessed heavyvoter turnover”. 

Deputy commissioner Poonch, Rahul Yadav said that someincidents like technical snags of EVMs at some stations and confrontationbetween election staff and voters took place at one location but the thingswere settled timely and voting process ended very smoothly.

DDC Poonch also said that Poonch has recorded voter turnovermore than previous polls.
