Staff shortage ‘hampers’ work in Panja Chowk Post Office

Shortage of staff is hampering the working of the Post Office located in Jawahar Nagar area of Rajouri, locals said.

They said, “Dearth of staff and absence of generatorfacility is hampering public service delivery at the Panja Chowk Post Office.The vital institution is suffering due to official apathy.”

   

Highly placed sources told Greater Kashmir; “The post officeis being run from a building near Panja Chowk. It has one post of sub-postmaster on which an official has been posted, but both posts of the clericalstaff lie vacant. The sub-post master runs the entire affairs of the clericalstaff.”

They further said that a generator lying in the post officelies damaged and the concerned authorities have failed to repair it and havealso not provided a new one.

“We find only one man and some postmen working in postoffice all the times. They remain busy and there is need of additional staff,keeping in view the workload,” Ankush Kumar, a resident of Jawahar Nagar, said.

Another resident, Ravi Kumar, said, “The Post Office is animportant institution, but is functioning in dearth of staff. There is animmediate need to solve the issue by posting of additional staff.”

On being contacted, deputy commissioner, Rajouri, MohammadAijaz Asad, said that shortage of staff has also been reported from otheroffices of the Postal department across the district.

He assured to take up the matter with senior authorities ofthe concerned department.
