Shortage of staff is hampering the working of the Post Office located in Jawahar Nagar area of Rajouri, locals said.
They said, “Dearth of staff and absence of generator facility is hampering public service delivery at the Panja Chowk Post Office. The vital institution is suffering due to official apathy.”
Highly placed sources told Greater Kashmir; “The post office is being run from a building near Panja Chowk. It has one post of sub-post master on which an official has been posted, but both posts of the clerical staff lie vacant. The sub-post master runs the entire affairs of the clerical staff.”
They further said that a generator lying in the post office lies damaged and the concerned authorities have failed to repair it and have also not provided a new one.
“We find only one man and some postmen working in post office all the times. They remain busy and there is need of additional staff, keeping in view the workload,” Ankush Kumar, a resident of Jawahar Nagar, said.
Another resident, Ravi Kumar, said, “The Post Office is an important institution, but is functioning in dearth of staff. There is an immediate need to solve the issue by posting of additional staff.”
On being contacted, deputy commissioner, Rajouri, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, said that shortage of staff has also been reported from other offices of the Postal department across the district.
He assured to take up the matter with senior authorities of the concerned department.
