Suspected explosive creates panic on Rajouri highway

Traffic on Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch national highway (144-A) was suspended for over three hours after a suspected material was found by the road opening party of army on Monday.

In an official statement, senior superintendent of policeYougal Manhas said that Road Opening Party (ROP) of an army unit was on morningpatrol on NH-144A that connects Jammu with Rajouri and Poonch districts andduring patrolling army jawans of ROP saw something suspicious lying alongsidehighway near Kallar chowk.

   

“During close examination, a bottle filled with liquidmaterial and a polybag filled with some solid material was found. The ROPflashed an alert and soon after a team of police headed by Incharge Police PostChingus Chatyar, SI MD Khan also reached on the spot and enforced closure oftraffic on particular stretch,” the said SSP.

Later, senior army and police officers also reached on thespot along with army’s bomb disposal squad.

“The bomb disposal squad launched its operation followingSOP and after hour long exercise, the said suspected IED material was destroyedon the spot thereby averting any possible mishap,” said the SSP.

“Timely action by the alert jawans of army ROP avertedany untoward incident and now investigation into the matter has been startedwith DySP Hqrs Govind Rattan conducting investigation,” SSP Rajouri YougalManhas informed.

Meanwhile, in another statement issued in the evening, theSSP said that during initial investigation of the matter, it has come to forethat no banned explosive material was present in the suspicious object foundalong highway in Rajouri.

“It seems that some miscreant placed a suspicious object ina disintegrated form to give it the shape of an IED to create social disorder,”he said.

Further investigation is going on, the SSP added.
