Aghast over the prevailing water crisis, the villagers of Tain and Kodmang held protests on Thursday.
The people of Tain, located in Mendhar sub-division staged a protest by assembling at one place in the village along with empty water vessels. “We live along the LoC and only source of water in this season is the army, as they (army) provide us water through water tankers,” locals said.
They said that in the summer season, all the natural water sources in the area dry-up and gravity water schemes also get closed. “The concerned Public Health Engineering (PHE) department pays no attention to our grievance,” they alleged. They appealed to the district administration to take adequate steps and ensure water supply in their area.
Meanwhile, people from Kodmang area of Rajouri’s Darhal tehsil also staged a protest over the prevailing water crisis in their area. They highlighted the poor water supply mechanism of PHE department in their area and accused the department of careless approach.
