Water shortage irks Narole, Sanai residents

The residents of Narole village of Mendhar and Sanai village of Surankote are irked over the shortage of water supply in their areas.

The residents of Narole, including MohammaRafiq, Hussain Mohammad and MohammaSharief, told Greater Kashmir, “There is only one water supply scheme in their area, which is a lift water supply scheme. It has been lying shut for the last four months and the entire area has been hit by severe water crisis.”

The entire population is dependent upon natural water wells, which are also in a semi-dry condition, the local said, adding that the people have to wait for the entire night hours to fill their utensils.

On being contacted by Greater Kashmir, assistant executive engineer, PHE division Mendhar, said, “The water supply in the village is affected due to an issue with the lifting motor. There is also a technical snag in the power transformer for the water supply scheme.”

Meanwhile, the residents of Sanai village stage a demonstration against the public health engineering department over the prevailing water scarcity in the area. The agitating people assembled on Poonch-Jammu highway at Sanai Chowk and blocked it.

They raised slogans against the public health engineering department and alleged that severe water crisis is prevailing in the area, which is affecting normal life. “We have raised the issue with the senior officers of the department a lot of times, but nothing has been done yet,” they claimed.

The highway remained blocked for around half-an-hour due to the protest.

Later, a team from Surankote police station, alongwith officials of public health engineering department, reached the spot and assured the protesters that the water crisis will be solved at an earliest.
