Woman delivers dead baby outside CHC Kandi; doctor relieved, nurse suspended

Health department on Monday relieved a doctor and suspended a nurse after a woman delivered a dead baby here outside the community health centre (CHC) Kotranka on September 29 allegedly due to the negligence of the hospital staff.   

As per reports, a woman from Kewal village of Budhal was admitted to Budhal hospital with complaints of diarrhea and labour pain on September 29. After preliminary treatment, she was sent to CHC Kandi by the medical staff of Budhal hospital.

   

“In CHC Kandi, a team of doctors and medical staff attended the patient and later shifted her to labour room initially and then to ward,” a complaint forwarded to health authorities by the relatives of the woman reads.

There (at CHC ward), as per the complaint, a copy of which is with Greater Kashmir, the woman developed more complications.   

The complaint further reads that instead of attending the woman properly and providing her medical aid, the on-duty staff referred her to district hospital Rajouri at about 11 pm and didn’t pay any heed to repeated pleas of the relatives of the woman to attend her.  

While she was being referred, as per the complaint, the woman delivered a dead baby outside CHC Kandi.

Later, the hospital staff shifted the woman and her dead child to hospital ward, the complaint said further.   

Meanwhile, on the basis of initial inquiry conducted into the matter, the health department has relieved an on-duty doctor and suspended a nurse for their negligence to attend the woman properly.   

“A Medical Officer of CHC Kandi has been detached to CMO office Rajouri while a junior staff nurse of CHC Kandi has also been placed under suspension and attached in the office of CMO Rajouri,” BMO Kandi, Dr Iqbal Malik said.

He further said that a three-member team of department comprising of two doctors and a CHO has also been constituted to probe into the matter and submit the report within a week time.
