Woman dies after giving birth

The residents of Dewal area in Mahore sub-division of Reasi district staged a protest against the health authorities, here on Friday, after a woman died after giving birth.

The protesting residents said, “Rajo Begum, wife of Mohammad Iqbal, went into labour on Thursday. She delivered a baby but developed some complications. We called the primary health centre, Dewal, to ask for assistance. As there is no doctor appointed in the PHC, the lone pharmacist informed that we should shift her to GMC&H, Jammu.”

“We tried to shift her to the GMC&H, Jammu, but she died on the way. Had there been a doctor appointed in the PHC, Rajo would still have been alive,” they claimed.

The agitating residents claimed that the PHC caters to around 15,000 souls, but successive governments have failed to appoint a doctor. “How many more lives need to be lost before the government realizes the need and takes adequate steps?” they asked.

They urged upon the Governor’s administration to look into the issue and redress their grievance.
