Around 120 players, including girls in different age groups, participated in the second Winter Camp organised by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Unified Martial Arts (JKAUMA) at Pahalgam in below normal temperatures.

The four-day winter camp was organized by JKAUMA as part of ‘Drugs Out, Sports In’ initiative, which has been launched by the academy to promote healthy living through martial arts in Jammu and Kashmir.

The winter camp, for which participants were flagged off from Gindun Stadium on Saturday, concluded on Tuesday.

Lauding the initiative taken by JKAUMA to promote healthy living though martial arts, Advisor to the Governor, K Vijay Kumar said sports culture should be encouraged to channelize the energy of the youth positively.

“Youth have not been exposed to the culture of camping and such events will give them an opportunity to meet and interact with kids from other parts of the state,” Kumar said.

The organizers of the winter camp said that the event was organized in the run-up to prepare the players for various district, state, national and international events in 2019.

“Various Martial Art forms, including Jeet Kune Do, Tong IL Moo Do, Taekwondo, Kubo, Karate, Grappling, and besides six other styles were taught during the camp,” Rameez Khan, who is the General Secretary of JKAUMA, said.
