The first Khelo India Winter Games-2020 concluded at ski resort of Gulmarg on Wednesday.
Around 900 players participated in the event which comprised of skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, ice hockey, snowshoeing, ice stock, snow rugby and snow baseball. More than half of the participants were from outside J&K while as others were locals.
Commissioner Secretary Youth Services and Sports J&K Sarmad Hafeez along with others attended the prize distribution ceremony. Hafeez termed the event as a big success. “It is first of its kind event held in Gulmarg. We hope in future also Gulmarg will host many more such events,” he added.
“These games have been able to send positive message to outside World that Kashmir is safe for visitors. It will help in the revival of Tourism sector and will ultimately help our economy. Apart from Tourism sector, it has also helped us on to identity the local talent who excelled during these games,” Hafeez added.
Dr Saleem Ur Rehman presented vote of thanks and he hailed the contribution of Government of India (GoI) for holding such mega sports activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
