3-day basketball camp for physically challenged persons commences

A three-day advanced basketball summer camp for physically challenged persons organised by Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS) in collaboration with Wheelchair Basketball Federation commenced on Tuesday at Indoor Stadium, Srinagar. 

According to the organisers, the camp will help more than 35 physically challenged basketball players to develop skills in the game and prepare for the national and international championships. The players are part of VMS Sports club, which has been established to involve physically challenged persons in different sports activities and to make them vibrant part of the society. 

   

President of VMS Dr Mir Mohammad Maqbool stressed on need for social integration of all the physically challenged persons. He said that sports can play an important role in empowering these persons and make them live independently. 

Chairman of District Legal Services Authority, Srinagar Ajaz Ahmad appreciated the rule of VMS in bringing these physically challenged to a level where they are able to participate in big sports events. Chairperson of Wheelchair Basket Ball Federation of India Kalyani introduced the coaches who will be training these disabled players for three days. She also briefed members about the activities of Wheel Chair Basket Ball Federation of India. She thanked VMS for hosting first summer camp in Srinagar and assured all the help from the federation for the upliftment of this game in the Valley. Secretary VMS Mohammad Morifat Qadri thanked all the players and District Legal Service Authorities, Srinagar and Sports Council especially Divisional Sports Officer Nuzhat for their support and help in organising this event.
