3-day Rouf Memorial State Rafting championship begins at Pahalgam

The 3-day Rouf Memorial State Rafting Championship began here on Monday in which 12 teams from all the three regions of the State are participating.

Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Khalid Jahangir flagged off thechampionship in presence of Director Tourism Kashmir Nisar Ahmad Wani andGhulam Rasool Dar whose son and a tourist guide Rouf Ahmad Dar lost his lifewhile saving tourists from drowning at Yenner Pahalgam.

   

To pay tributes to the brave heart for his selflessservices, the department of tourism Kashmir in collaboration with White WaterRafting Association of J&K organized the championship on his name.

DDC Anantnag Khalid Jehangir paid tributes to Rouf Ahmad Darfor saving lives of a tourist couple when they were having a joy ride in theraft at river Lidder.

The championship, which has representations from Jammu,Kashmir and Ladakh regions, also features teams from Sports Council, J&KPolice, SDRF. Three women teams also participated in the championship.
