Army cycle expedition flagged off from Siachen

As part of the ongoing commemoration of 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, a cycle expedition was flagged off by Siachen Warriors Brigade from Siachen today.

According to the statement, the expedition team comprisingof one officer, one JCO and 10 Other Ranks will cover a distance ofapproximately 600km over 12 days, through the challenging mountainouslandscapes of Siachen and Eastern Ladakh, including popular locations ofHunder, Khalsar, Agam, Pangong Tso, Chang La, Leh, Khardung La and Siachen BaseCamp.

   

The expedition team will visit various educationalinstitutions enroute and make the students aware about the Kargil War includingthe important role played by many Ladakhi soldiers in the war.

“The expedition team also aims to spread awarenessabout the fragile ecology of the Leh-Ladakh Region and make people aware about’SWACHH SIACHEN ABHIYAN’ being undertaken by the ‘Siachen WarriorsBrigade’.”

The team will share knowledge about environmental protectionand waste management with the students as well as tourists they meet enroute,as part of the awareness initiative.

“In Leh, the team is scheduled to interact with SonamWangchuk of the ‘Druk White Lotus School’, to gain knowledge about environmentprotection and learn about various innovations instituted by Wangchuk toprotect environment in the Ladakh Region,” said the statement.
