BCCI releases Rs 2.5 cr to J&K Cricket Association

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has started releasing the pending money to J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) that was withheld for last three years owing to litigations and internal bickering in the JKCA.

BCCI as per a statement issued on its official website mentions that Rs 252,61,166 has been released on March 16 in favor of the JKCA.

“The payment has been released as advance against the amount due to the association, amount payable to selectors, players, vendors, hoteliers and others,” a BCCI statement reads.

The amount released, first installment since the J&K High Court appointed administrators and CEO took charge of JK cricket body, only covered the release of previous seasons match fees to JK senior one day team, senior T20 team, Under-19 one-day team and Under-19 Cooch Behar trophy team.

“Apart from that it also covered the pending liability of JKCA to various vendors.”

The BCCI still owes JKCA around 3 crore on part of only match fees, DA of J&K cricketers which as per JKCA official is likely to be released within month.

“The process has started while as it was not the case during last two years when the BCCI had withheld all the money. After the court appointed administrators and CEO took charge, first thing they did was to initiate process for the release of players pending money. It is first installment and we are expecting more within month,” said an official in JKCA.

While BCCI has not released all the pending liability of J&K players, it did release the contract money of former J&K Cricket team coach Mithun Manhas directly in January.

As per another payment release statement of BCCI on its site, Mithun Manhas received amount of Rs 75,60,000 on January 30, 2018 as the professional charges, Head Coach-JKCA for FY 2015-16 & FY 2016-17.

Manhas is currently assistant coach of Kings XI Punjab in Indian Premier League and previously associated with JK team as its coach.

“It is unfair that only few teams have got their money while we have been left high and dry. The most ironical is that for BCCI priority was to release money of JK senior team coach Mithun Manhas while poor players like us are not important,” said JK women’s team member.

Another senior JK cricketer said that most of the cricketers belong to poor families who in absence of proper management in JKCA spend money out of their own pockets while on lengthy tours.

“Though some of us can afford to wait for the match fees and DA but majority of players hail from poor financial backgrounds. It has been more difficult times for the junior sides as on lengthy tours they went through hard times while managing their daily expenses. As JKCA itself was in turmoil owing to various issues players were unable to get help from them,” he said.

When contacted chief executive officer J&K Cricket Association (JKCA), Syed Ashiq Hussain Bukhari said that players who were yet to get their match fee and DA, should approach the association.

“The process has started and I request all the players who have not received their match fees, DA yet, to contact the association office so that we can look into it. By getting all information we can start proceedings about release of the money to players,” he said.

About start of activities, he said, “We are working on to start the activities in all parts of the state. We will soon release our calendar of activities”.
