CEC LAHDC Leh declares Ladakh School Olympics open

Ladakh School Olympics (LSO) 2019 was today declared open by CEC, LAHDC, Leh Gyal P Wangyal during a colourful inaugural celebration at Leh Polo Ground today.

Olympic torch was lit by Speed Skater Stanzin Phuntsok andice hockey player Tashi Dolkar and Chimet Dolkar who have represented India atInternational level. The LSO flag was hoisted by Marathon runner Tashi Lhadolat the national level and the oath was administered by Ice Hockey Player RigzinNurboo who had represented India Men’s team at international level.

   

EC Agriculture Phuntsog Stanzin, EC Education KonchokStanzin, EC Minorities Mumtaz Hussain, Div Com Ladakh Saugat Biswas, DC, LehAvny Lavasa, SSP Leh Sargun Shukla, Councilors, MCL President Dr. IsheyNamgial, District Officers, staff and PETs of DYSS Office were present on theoccasion.

Addressing the gathering, CEC appreciated DC/CEO, LAHDC, LehAvny Lavasa and the district officers for all their efforts in managing andorganizing the 4 days sports event despite many challenges. He said that theincrease in student’s participation by almost double numbers from last yearproves the popularity of LSO among students.

CEC made mention of Ladakhi girls and boys excelling invarious sports like Ice-Hockey, Marathon, Football, Cricket and Archery at state,national and even international levels. He asserted that events like LSO willmotivate and provide great opportunity to the students to explore theirsporting talent and excel in it to be able to compete at national andinternational levels. He said that Hill Council is taking all the possiblemeasures to promote sports in the district and informed that keeping a liaisonwith J&K Cricket Association they will soon open a unit in Leh tofacilitate coaching in cricket to local youth. He spoke about the archeryequipments provided in different government schools to train the children atyoung age in archery. He suggested each PET teacher to adopt one student to gettrained in a particular sport. He wished the organizers and participatingstudents for a successful conduct of the 4 days sports events.
