Chairman and CEO J&K Bank Parvez Ahmad on Friday said that J&K state has got huge potential in winter sports and there is need to develop it to full potential. He was speaking at a meeting with the officials of SnowShoe Federation of India (SSFI) at J&K Bank corporate office here.
The officials of SSFIArif Laigaroo, who is also PDP Youth Secretary, and Mushtaq Bashir met thechairman J&K Bank to apprise him about the potential of SnowShoe sport andactivity in J&K State. The duo had recently represented India in WorldSnowShoe championship held in Italy.
Speaking on theoccasion, Parvez Ahmad said that J&K State has got huge potential in winterand water sport and there is need to develop it so that we can avail its fullbenefits.
“While in other benefitswe can get huge competition from other parts of country, in winter sports andwater sports, there is very less competition. As a sport and tourism activityboth these areas have got huge potential which can benefit our sports person aswell as common man as medium of earning livelihood,” Parvez Ahmad said.
“I have recently heardabout the SnowShoe sport which is popular in European and American countries.We should promote it as every day activity during winters. As for J&K bankis concerned it is always in forefront to development and promote sports inJ&K and we will continue to do that,” he added.
Arif Laigaroo whilebriefing the chairman J&K Bank, said that SnowShoe is totally a newactivity in India as well as in J&K.
“This is new sport and activity in India as well as inJ&K. SSFI is fielding teams in World championships from last four years andpeople are now coming to know about the sport and activity,” he said.
“Unlike other wintersports which require certain specifications and training, Snowshoe can be doneby anyone as a medium of everyday activity during winters. It can be used intrekking, snow running as well as daily walks during winters. Apart from sportsour tourism related players can develop it into a new tourism attraction forthe tourists,” he said.
Mushtaq Bashir on theoccasion informed Chairman J&K Bank about the formation of new football,Downtown Heroes in Srinagar.
Later both SSFIrepresentatives presented a memento to Chairman J&K Bank on behalf of theSSFI.
