Cricket commentator Anant Setalvad dead

Yesteryear cricket commentator Anant Setalvad, who used to draw pictures of the game’s progress on airwaves with his fine command of the English language, died here on Saturday night.

He was in his mid 80s, according to sources in the CricketClub of India, of which Setalvad was a long-term member.

   

Setalvad had started his radio commentary stint in thepre-TV days and had shared the mike with the likes of former Test opener andex-selection panel chief Vijay Merchant on All India Radio.

Former Mumbai spinner Milind Rege told PTI Setalvad hadplayed club cricket and was also cricket secretary of the club.It is learnt that the last rites would takeplace at the Worli crematorium here on Monday afternoon.
