Cyclist Akber Khan finishes 6th in Chandigarh Cyclothon

He is the only cyclist from the State to finish consistently among the top 10 position holders in the professional events from last four to five years.

International cyclist of J&K, Mohammad Akber Khan continues to shine in the professional cycling circuit of India as he finished sixth in the 6th edition of Chandigarh Cyclothon held in Chandigarh on Sunday.  

Akber Khan who plays for Noora Hospital has been giving consistent top-level performances in the national cycling arena over the years. On Sunday, riding among the top riders of Country, Akber finished sixth. For finishing sixth, Akber also bagged cash prize of rupees 10,000. Lst year, Akber had finished third in the same event.

He is the only cyclist from the State to finish consistently among the top 10 position holders in the professional events from last four to five years.

“Previously I was trained as sprinter in national camp. But from last year I am focussing on endurance and long events. That is working and the outcome is in front of everyone. It is always great to finish among top 10 in cyclothon because here it is open competition with no category like Under-23 or Under-19. All riders have to fight together for the top prizes,” Akber said.

Akber will next represent State in National Championship after finishing first in the selection trials held by J&K Cycling Association in Srinagar. The National championship is scheduled to be held the Haryana from November 24.

“I bagged first place in selection trials for upcoming national championship scheduled to be held in Haryana. In that event I would be riding in 150-kilomtre race and I am working hard for that,” he added.
