Director General, Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) Dr. Saleem-Ur-Rehman alongw ith District Development Commissioner Anantnag Mohammad Younis Malik inaugurated the mega cricket event at Bijbehara on Monday.
The Under-19 and 7-A-side cricket championship is being organized by the DYSS at Bijbehara, Anantnag in which district teams from Anantnag, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Baramulla, Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama, Shopian and Kupwara are participating. The inaugural match of the event was played between the district teams of Kupwara and Anantnag.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Saleem Ur Rehman said that in order to harvest sportsman spirit among the youth, sports activities of this kind play a pivotal role. Besides, parents also have an important role to play in this regard. Dr. Saleem also stated that the DYSS is proactively working to create conducive sports atmosphere in the State of J&K and all possible initiatives are being taken in this direction.
While applauding the efforts of District Administration Anantnag, District Police Lines Anantnag and District Youth Services & Sports Office of the District for helping local youth in showcasing their sports talent, he assured that the DYSS will leave no stone unturned in tapping and channelizing sports talent in the state of J&K.
The event is scheduled to conclude on September 29.
