Gladiators beat Gliders with experience

Greater Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 9: In the clash of the titans, experienced Mirza Gladiators (Hazratbal) prevailed over Ghani Gliders (Zaina Kadal) by 17 runs in a tightly fought high-scoring encounter at the Kashmir University ground on Wednesday.
With this morale boosting victory, Mirza Gladiators successfully removed Ghani Gliders from the top of the DCL points table. By virtue of their ninth win in the 11th league game, Mirza Gladiators are now number one on the Points Table with 18 points while Ghani Gliders slip to the second position with 16 points, eight victories, from 11 league games.
Mirza Gladiators skipper Abid Nabi won the toss and elected to bat first on a reasonably flat deck. Abid himself led from the front by scoring a quickfire 62 which included four huge sixes. He looked due for a three-digit figure but was run out while attempting a second run. In-form Jaleel played a cameo hitting couple of sixes and fours. In the last over, Sameer, also hit some shots to guide his side to a mammoth total of 192.
Confident after chasing 192 against Team Alkhuddam (Nowhatta) the other day, Ghani Gliders felt they could also overcome Mirza Gladiators. Both teams looked pretty balanced but Mirza Gladiators beat Ghani Gliders with more experience in their side.
Dr. Sajad, opening batsman of Ghani Gliders, provided the much needed impetus to the innings and at one stage were 72/0 from first seven overs. But the inning lost momentum as soon as two spinners, especially the mystery bowler Rafiq Wani, were introduced into the attack. Gliders collapsed to 77/3 in the 10th over.
In the middle overs, Jehangir’s two sixes brought Ghani Gliders back into the game. As soon as the game changer Jehangir got out the match looked well and truly over but skipper Omar Alam hit some lusty blows in the end to make the match interesting.  In last two overs, Ghani Gliders needed 34 runs to win but fell short by 17 runs.
Star performer Abid Nabi was adjudged Player of the Match and Best Batsman, he also received Highest Sixes award. Omar Dar claimed a three-for and was declared Best Bowler.
