Gulmarg ready to host first Khelo India Winter Games

The stage is set for first ever Khelo India Winter Games-2020 that will see around 900 participants taking part in the national event  at famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir from March 7 to 11.

The games organized by J&K State Sports Council and sponsored by Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will be held in various sports disciplines. The event would be inaugurated on March 7 and is expected to be thrown open by Union Sports Minister KirenRijiju. During the five day extravaganza, the competitions in the sports disciplines of snow skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing, ski mountaineering, ice stock, snow rugby and snow baseball would be held. Sports Council has put all the arrangements in place and has formed different committees. Players will arrive at Gulmarg on Friday and on Saturday.

 “In all the disciplines, teams from outside J&K are also featuring. It will be a tough fight between local and outside J&K players. The conditions are perfect for games with Gulmarg  receiving fresh snowfall on Thursday,” an official of the J&K Sports Council told Greater Kashmir.  Commissioner Secretary Sports SarmadHafeez, Secretary Sports Council NaseemJavaidChowdary , Director DYSS DrSaleem Ur Rehman, Director Tourism NisarWani and others have been holding regular meetings.
