I-League match cancelled as Minerva Punjab didn’t turn up

The I-League match between hosts Real Kashmir Football Club and Minerva Punjab FC was cancelled on Monday as the visitors did not turn up for the match at TRC Turf Ground in Srinagar.

Though it was clear that match is not going to happen as Minerva Punjab had refused to travel to Srinagar in the aftermath of the Pulwama Militant attack, match officials went ahead with the protocol top follow. Match officials followed their routine procedure and waiting till 3 PM, one hour after the kick off time of 2PM. At 3 PM match officials informed Real Kashmir FC that match has been cancelled and its official outcome would be decided by All India Football Federation (AIFF) disciplinary committee.

   

“We have to follow our normal procedure and that is what we did. Real Kashmir team was here and we had to wait till 3 PM for the opposite team. They did not arrive so we had to cancel match and submit our report to AIFF,” said match official.

“It is now in the hands of AIFF committee whether to award Real Kashmir full match points or not,” official added.

Earlier Soon after the incident on February 14, Minerva FC had expressed its reservation in travelling to Srinagar. However, All India Football Federation (AIFF) after consultation with J&K Government and Security established refused to call off match and gave it a green signal. Despite that Minerva did not travelled to Srinagar.

While the fate of the match hangs in balance as Minerva Punjab FC has moved to Court against any intention of AIFF to grant full points to Real Kashmir.
