Ist ever blind cricket tournament concludes at DPS

Kashmir Green defeated Kashmir Yellow by 35 runs in the final of the first ever blind cricket tournament in Kashmir at DPS Srinagar on Sunday.

Chasing 148 for victory, a superb 83 by M Ashraf helpedKashmir Green to defeat Kashmir Yellow as the latter got bundled out for 113.

   

The tournament was organised by J&K HandicappedAssociation in association with DPS Srinagar and Empowering Disable People’sTrust J&K.

The final was a grand event with the Principal Alistair R AFreese, and Chairman Vijay Dhar in attendance.

Speaking at the presentation, Principal Alistair R A Freesecomplimented the players on the win.

He said “I am delighted the school contributed to creatingthis historic opportunity. I am proud of everyone especially the school thatcontributed to making the event a success.”

Chairman Vijay Dhar too congratulated the players andpledged “At DPS Srinagar, we are bound to strive towards a society thatprovides an opportunity to everyone. This tournament was a part of our effortstowards this goal.”

J&K Handicapped Association President, Abdul Rashid Bhatsaid that the people with disabilities get very opportunities here to showtheir talent and sports is an area where they can excel and be recognised.

He said that after successful completion of this event, theyare planning another event for para cricket.

Event organiser and JKHA Srinagar President, Abrar Ahmadsaid, “By changing people’s perceptions of themselves and their abilities:Sport empowers these young people to recognize their own potential and advocatefor changes in society to enable them to fully realize that potential.”
