J&K senior cricket team selection commences

The process of selecting J&K senior cricket team has started with shortlisted players from Under-23 and senior category distributed into eight teams who will take part in practice matches for the selection.

After the selection in respective zones and provinces, J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) has formed eight teams who are taking part in the practice matches at Sher-i -Kashmir Cricket Stadium from Tuesday. The Thursday’s practice match was cancelled due to heavy morning downpour in Srinagar.

From Kashmir province, JKCA has divided into three teams of Central zone, North zone and South zone and from Jammu province teams have been divided into Jammu zone, Chenaab zone and Pir Panjal zone. The teams include players who were shortlisted during talent hunt events held in districts and zones. These six teams (3 each from Kashmir and Jammu province) have been grouped with two other teams that include senior cricketers and other national-level cricketers who were part of the recently concluded correction camp at SK stadium.

This year’s selection process would feature around six players from Ladakh region.

“We have started the process early to select our senior side and all the shortlisted players are being given a chance to prove their talent. It is an open selection process and the players who will perform during the practice matches will get in the reckoning for the selection in senior side,” said a JKCA official.

“It is first time that such thing is happening in J&K Cricket with players from far flung areas getting a chance to play along top cricketers of the state. Only yesterday, a cricketer from Kishtiwar who was spotted in talent hunt played a brilliant knock, smashing some established bowlers of J&K team. We are hopeful to find many more during the selection process,” he added.
