J&K senior cricket team selection commences

The process of selecting J&K senior cricket team has started with shortlisted players from Under-23 and senior category distributed into eight teams who will take part in practice matches for the selection.

After the selection in respective zones and provinces,J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) has formed eight teams who are taking partin the practice matches at Sher-i -Kashmir Cricket Stadium from Tuesday. TheThursday’s practice match was cancelled due to heavy morning downpour in Srinagar.

   

From Kashmir province, JKCA has divided into three teams ofCentral zone, North zone and South zone and from Jammu province teams have beendivided into Jammu zone, Chenaab zone and Pir Panjal zone. The teams includeplayers who were shortlisted during talent hunt events held in districts andzones. These six teams (3 each from Kashmir and Jammu province) have beengrouped with two other teams that include senior cricketers and othernational-level cricketers who were part of the recently concluded correctioncamp at SK stadium.

This year’s selection process would feature around sixplayers from Ladakh region.

“We have started the process early to select our senior sideand all the shortlisted players are being given a chance to prove their talent.It is an open selection process and the players who will perform during thepractice matches will get in the reckoning for the selection in senior side,”said a JKCA official.

“It is first time that such thing is happening in J&KCricket with players from far flung areas getting a chance to play along topcricketers of the state. Only yesterday, a cricketer from Kishtiwar who wasspotted in talent hunt played a brilliant knock, smashing some establishedbowlers of J&K team. We are hopeful to find many more during the selectionprocess,” he added.
