J&K T20 coaching camp begins in Jammu

The coaching for the shortlisted J&K cricketers for the J&K T20 team started at GGM Science College Jammu on Sunday.

The camp is organized by J&K Cricket Association and in it 23 shortlisted cricketers of state are participating. The camp is being conducted by JKCA to select J&K team for upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. For the coaching camp, selectors had shortlisted 25 cricketers and in camp there are 23 that have started training under Coach Milap Mewada. J&K mentor-cum-player Irfan Pathan and Mumbai Indian’s Indian Premier League recruit Rasikh Salam have not joined camp yet. J&K will be starting its T20 campaign against Nagaland on February 2.

   

For selecting J&K team for the last senior campaign of the season, JKCA conducted practice matches for the shortlisted set of more than 50 cricketers of State at Jammu. From the practice matches, selector’s shortlisted 25 cricketers who now are part of the coaching camp.

“Except Irfan and Rasikh all players have joined camp and did training yesterday and today. The camp was scheduled to start two days back but due to bad weather and wet outfield it couldn’t start. During the camp coach and trainers would be assessing players in every field. Only after that final set of players would be announced for the T20 event,” said JKCA official.

Meanwhile the selection of J&K Under-23 team is also going on in Jammu and from Monday, shortlisted players have got involved in practice matches. The trials for Under-19 girls have also restarted from Monday.

The selection trials for J&K Under-14 team started on Sunday at Jammu. J&K this year is hosting Under-14 tournament at Jammu from February 12.
