JKSC invites 22 associations for meeting today

With an aim to give a major fillip to sports activities in Jammu and Kashmir, the J&K Sports Council has called a meeting of 22 sports associations.

In a notice issued by the J&K Sports Council, 22 sports associations have been called to attend the meeting at Sports Office, MA Stadium, Jammu, on Thursday to discuss the calendar of activities.

The associations of the games called for the meeting include Athletics, Archery, Badminton, Billiards, Bodybuilding, Chess, Cycling, Football, Fencing, Gymnastics, Hockey, Handball, Kho Kho, Mountaineering, Table Tennis, Tennis Ball Cricket, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Rifle, Roll Ball, Soft Tennis and Rowing.

In the list, no close-contact sports discipline has been included. All the associations called are either outdoor disciplines or no-contact sports like Badminton.

The J&K administration recently imposed a ban on close-contact sports activities after a surge in COVID-19 cases in the UT. However, the non-contact outdoor sports activities like football and cricket were allowed to continue under strict COVID-19 SOPs.

An official of the J&K Sports Council said the meeting has been called to draft out proper planning of the activities that would be carried out on a major scale in coming weeks.

“Government intends to conduct a large number of sports events across J&K. In that regard, the sports associations would be asked to come up with their plans and the level of activities they intend to conduct,” he said. “Also if the Sports Council intends to conduct any activity on its own, the associations would be asked in what manner they can facilitate.”
