Kashmir Harvard Inter-School Tourney: SP School beat KHEI, lifts title

SP Higher Secondary School emerged winner in the Kashmir Harvard Inter-School cricket tournament after defeating Kashmir Harvard Educational Institute (KHEI) in the final played at Sheri-Kashmir Cricket Stadium Sonwar here on Tuesday.

The final of the tournament that has started in the month of Ramadhan was played on the newly laid central turf wicket of the JKCA cricket stadium. In the tournament 16 top school teams of Kashmir had participated and in final SP School clashed with KHEI.  

   

SP won the toss and opted to field first. KHEI failed to read the turf properly with their top order batsman falling cheaply. Somehow middle and lower order took total to 95 runs in allotted 20 overs. Muntazir took three wickets for the SP School and he was the bowler who cleaned up KHEI top order.

In reply SP School chased down target only in 13 overs for the loss of two wickets. Opening batsman Mubashir remained unbeaten on 33 while as Mateen scored unbeaten 43. Mubashir was awarded man of the match for his all-round performance in the match while as Muntazir of SP School was adjudged as man of the series.

International star cricketer of Kashmir Parvez Rasool was chief guest on the occasion while as Incharge Corporate Communications J&K, Sajad Bazaz and Director State Cricket Academy, Mubashir Hassan were guest of honours.

Among others present at presentation ceremony were veteran cricketer of J&K Abdur Rouf, star cricketer Abid Nabi, Kashmir Harvard official Sheikh Mubashir, SP School official and cricket coach NP Singh, J&K Bank official Naseer Ahmad and organizing secretary of event Gulzar Khan.

The match was witnessed by hundreds of school students who had come from various schools to witness the much awaited final clash.

Speaking on the occasion, Parvez Rasool termed the event success and hailed Amblin and State Cricket Academy for conducting it successfully.

“It is not small thing to conduct such level of event on professional lines. It must be first time that these school students would be participating in such level of event in which competition was of top quality,” Parvez said.

Sajad Bazaz on the occasion said that J&K Bank is at the forefront in promotion of the sport in the state.
