Abrar, who hails from Sopore, has qualified for the Volkswagen Vento Cup also known as Polo R Cup.

A budding racing driver and biker from Kashmir, Abrar Bin Ayoub, has been doing well in various national motorsports events and aims to make it big at the national and international levels.

Abrar, who hails from Sopore, has qualified for the Volkswagen Vento Cup also known as Polo R Cup.

He finished third in the qualifying rounds and is set to race along with some of the known faces of Indian motorsports arena.

“I have been working for my college (SRM Chennai) racing team since my first year to design, fabricate and race with an ATV buggy in a competition called BAJA SAE India. I have been the driver and steering engineer in the team. Now, I have also been appointed as vice-captain for the final season. My college is looking forward to sponsor us for a student races in Auburn USA next month,” Abrar told Greater Kashmir.

“The head of Volkswagen motorsport told me that I must join racing and he was all praise for me. It has made a mark in my heart and head and I have decided that I am going all-out to pursue my dream in motorsports,” he said.

However, he fears, lack of sponsors and financial constraints may force him to skip the event.

Abrar said that at initial level it is his family that has been financially supporting him “but the professional motorsport is a big money game and without strong sponsors it is not possible to continue”.

“I need to find sponsors and I want to bring laurels to my state. I feel lack of sponsors may hinder my dream of making big in the motorsports arena,” he says.

Abrar is also looking to participate in the famous Raid-de-Himalaya rally which is considered as one of the toughest event in the World on Bike. “I will be the first bike racer from Kashmir to do so but I will need a sponsor for that also,” he said.
