North Campus, Kashmir University emerged as the winner of the inter-department cricket tournament that concluded at Kashmir University main campus Hazratbal here on Friday.
The tournament had started on June 26 and saw participation of 35 teams from various departments of the University.
In the final, North Campus defeated Political Science Department by five wickets. Electing to bat first, the Political Science team was bundled out for 115 in 19 overs following a magnificent spell of bowling by the North Campus, especially Hazim and Javed with the new ball.
Chasing the target of 116 runs, North Campus lost both the openers within first five overs. However, a brilliant partnership between Rahil and Sharif put North Campus back in the driving seat and ultimately North Campus won the match by five wickets with two overs to spare.
At the concluding ceremony, Registrar Kashmir University Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nisar congratulated North Campus for winning the tournament after making to the finals for the last three years. He also spoke about the importance of sports and developing a healthy sports culture in the University.
Director, North Campus Prof Naseer Iqbal congratulated North Campus cricket team and the Convener Sports Er. Azfar Farooq for winning the tournament and bringing laurels to the North Campus.
