Open Carrom C'ship concludes  at Islamia College

In the Under-14 boys category, Rouf Ahmad Dar bagged the first position while as Aqib Manzoor bagged second place. Ilhan Bin Bilal bagged the third position.

Adnan Afzal and Aaaliya Sultan bagged top prizes in the two-day long Open Carrom Championship that concluded at Islamia College, Hawal here on Tuesday.

As per a statement, the event organized by District Sports Development Association, Srinagar, under the auspices of J&K Sports Development Association attracted around 70 players from all over the valley for participation.

 

In the event competitions of Under-14 boys and Open male, female categories were held. Adnan Afzal bagged the top prize in the senior male category while as Danish Bashir and Fazil Fayaz bagged the second and the third prizes respectively. Waseem Bashir stood fourth.

 

In the female category, Aaliya Sultan bagged first place while as Insha Afzal bagged second. Asma Baba bagged third place.

Earlier, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Srinagar, East, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah along with Principal Islamia College, Hawal, Professor, and Muhammad Aslam Baba had inaugurated the two-day open carom championship on Monday.

 

“Education as well as sports are important for youth and they should try to make a name in both.  I am always ready to help in organizing events like this and hope that the organisers comes up with many more such events,” said Shah.

 

Principal Islamia College, Professor M. Aslam Baba said that the doors of the college will always remain open for the events like this. “Apart from academics, Islamia College has earned reputation in sports arena. The college campus keeps abuzz with activities throughout the year with sports activities,” he said.

 

JKSDA Sr. Vice-President, Rauf Ahmad Tramboo while giving details about the event said:

 

“It is for the first time that we are organizing an event like Carrom that is being played almost in every household. However, the irony is that there are not many events for youth being held to show their talent in this game. It is for that reason we have organized this event and the response was amazing,” Tramboo said.
