Patel's stunning ton salvages pride for Riders

Greater Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 9: Thanks to a power packed undefeated century by Sunny Patel, Pride Riders (Rainawari) salvaged pride for themselves thrashing Team Alkhuddam (Nowhatta) by over 20 runs in a high-scoring thriller at the Kashmir University ground on Wednesday.
Sunny Patel, a player from Baroda, became the first player to score ton (101*) in the inaugural edition of the DCL T20. In reply, Team Alkhuddam skipper Huwaid Hamid also hit a century (105 runs), the second ton of the DCL, in a losing cause though.
Batting first, Pride Riders rode high on a stunning knock by Sunny on a sunny afternoon. After flurry of wickets in the beginning, Sunny Patel and Ashiq, played some exciting cricket in the middle. Riders ended up scoring a formidable 183.
Chasing a stiff 184, Alkhuddam captain Huwaid opened the batting himself and played some breathtaking strokes in the middle. Alkhuddam scored 70 plus inside the Powerplay and looked all set to chase down the target comfortably but stumbled in the second half of their innings. Huwaid scored 105 but could not see his team through as they needed 34 runs from last two overs and 30 from the last one.
Spinner Sonu bowled economically and also claimed a wicket from his spell of four overs while Nitin was the highest wicket taker, which won him Best Bowler award. Sunny deservedly received Player of the Match and Highest Sixes awards. Huwaid got the consolation Best Batsman award. Pride Riders ended their DCL campaign with eight points while Alkhuddam with 10.
