Sindhu, Saina seal quarter-final spot at Asia Badminton Championship

The Indian shuttlers P V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal continued their impressive run, progressing to the women’s quarterfinals of the Asia Badminton Championship in Wuhan on Thursday.

Sindhu, seeded fourth, took just 33 minutes to get thebetter of Indonesia’s Choirunnisa 21-15 21-19 in a one-sided women’s singlesmatch.

   

The world number six will next play the unseeded Cai Yanyanof China in the quarterfinals.

London Olympic bronze medallist Saina, who was the lastIndian to take the court on Thursday, needed just 38 minutes to get the betterof Kim Ga Eun of Korea to enter the last eight round of the women’s singlesevent.

Saina, seeded seventh, has a tough next encounter as shewill be up against third seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.

In the men’s singles, Sameer brushed aside Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus 21-12 21-19. He will next face either Thai shuttler Sitthikom Thammasin or second seeded Shi Yuqi of China.
