Stakeholders question inclusion of dropped Ranji players in U-23 squad

J&K senior selection committee recently dropped three non-performing players – Shubham Sinmgh Pundir, Paras Sharma and Fazil Rashid – from the Ranji trophy team and now the same have found a place straight into J&K Under-23 squad. The players had exhibited below par performances consistently and selectors were left with no option but to drop them out. However, the trio is back in Under-23 team at the expense of other youngsters craving for a single opportunity. It looks J&K Cricket Association want these three players to play all forms and levels of cricket. Aghast over the issue, stakeholders have raised questions on the inclusion of these players in U-23 team.

“It is total injustice with other youngsters as they have got just one chance and tournament to play. These three have already played a lot of cricket with senior team and have failed consistently. Despite that, they have been given a place among first eleven in Under-23 team. Their arrival has not changed a bit with team suffering another big defeat. Better is to give a chance to other talented youngsters and see how they go on,” said a senior cricketer.

“Our cricketers get limited cricket to play at national level and in that if a selected few will play every format and level, then where will others go,” questioned another senior cricketer.
