U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy: Day 2: Haryana in complete control against host J&K

Visitors Haryana were in complete control at the end of second day’s play in Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy (2018-19) against hosts J&K at Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here on Monday.

At the end of second day’s play, J&K were in trouble having lost eight wickets at the score of 161 runs in the first inning in response to Haryana’s first inning score of 462. J&K still trail Haryana in first inning by 301 runs with only two wickets in hand.

   

The first two days of the match saw Haryana dominating J&K in both batting as well as bowling department.

The second days play started with Haryana resuming their inning from the overnight total of 390 for the loss of two wickets. They finally declared the inning on 462 for the loss of three wickets. 

Overnight unbeaten batsman Yuvraj Singh completed his double hundred and remained unbeaten on 218 runs off 331 balls when the inning was declared. His inning included 30 boundaries. 

Piyush Dahiya was the only wicket in Haryana inning to fall during the day. He fell after scoring 49 runs off 77 balls. Agastya Sharma took the wicket for J&K. For Haryana, Ahaan Poddar was other main scorer who was out on the first day after scoring 167 runs. For J&K, Basit Bashir and Dhruv singh took one wicket each.

In reply, J&K response looked in disarray as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. At the end of days play, J&K were on 161 for the loss of eight wickets. Mohammad Manzir with a knock of 54 runs was the only highlight in J&K inning. He tried to hold on to one end but after facing 150 balls for his 54 run knock, he was picked by Anuj Thakral. Akaash Ayoub Bhat was the other notable scorer for J&K, scoring 33 runs. Ranjot Singh is bating on 19. For Haryana Mudit Pruthi took three wickets while as Nishant Sindhu and Anuj Thakral took two each. 

Trailing Haryana by 301 runs, J&K looked in deep trouble at the end of second day.
