Bouncing back strongly after suffering two consecutive defeats, J&K registered a comfortable 174 run win over hosts Odisha in its third match of the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy Cricket Tournament at Cuttack on Monday.
Hosts Odisha got all out for 335 runs in its second inning on the last day of the match while chasing a target of 510 runs. They fell short of a target by 174 runs thus handing J&K a comfortable win.
Earlier, the fourth day’s play started with Odisha resuming their inning from an overnight score of 183 runs for the loss of five wickets. Unbeaten batsman Manas Ranjan Nayak led a lonely battle for Odisha and went on to play a fighting marathon inning of 171 runs before being the last man out for the hosts. Odisha got all out for 335 runs in 108 overs. Mana with 171 runs was the highest scorer for them while Anil Panda scored 69.
For J&K Dhruv Singh Parmar took four wicket haul while Basit Bashir and Abhay Tandon took two wickets each. Murtawan and Kawal Preet took one wicket each.
J&K in its second inning had declared on 350 for the loss of six wickets to set a target of 510 runs to win for Odisha. Musaif Aijaz had played unbeaten knock of 153 runs while Kanhaiya Wadhwan had scored 103 runs. Yawar Hassan had scored 49. For Odisha Malaya R Pradhan, Rasekh Biswal and Ankit Jaiswal took two wickets each.
It is first win for the J&K team in the tournament after playing three matches and got six points from the match. The Team is scheduled to play on December 13 against Baroda in Jammu.
