U-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy: J&K notch up 3rd straight win

J&K registered its third straight win in the ongoing Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy tournament as the team hammered Odisha by 85 runs at Jaipuria Vidhyalaya Ground, Jaipur on Monday.

J&K batsmen lead by Qamran Iqbal who scored his second ton in the event, and Jiyaad Magarey’s 72 helped  the team post a healthy 276 runs on board, which the bowlers complemented well  by bundling out Odisha for 191 runs in 39.2 overs. Abdul Samad took a 5-wicket haul for J&K while as Taizeem Tak took four wickets.

With run rate of 5.54 required for a win, Odisha received an early blow as opener Kunal Mallick got out for a duck in the first over of the inning bowled by Mujtaba Yousuf. However, recovering from the jolt, Odisha were going well in chase of J&K’s total of 276 runs. At one time, Odisha looked comfortable with 109 runs for the loss of one wicket in 19.3 overs, but the introduction of Taizeem Tak into the attack for J&K triggered a collapse in Odisha’s batting line. Tak broke the 108-run partnership between Nitish N Samantaray and Swastik Samal, as he clean bowled Nitish in the 20th over. On the next ball Tak got the wicket of Shubham for another duck.

With Tak claiming two wickets in successive deliveries, Odisha inning never got back on track as Abdulk Samad ran through their middle. While Samad bagged a 5-wicket haul for J&K, Tak ended up with four wickets including the wicket of Swastik Samal who scored 122 runs for Odhisa. Odhisa were bundled out for 191 runs in 39.2 overs.

Earlier batting first, J&K on the back of brilliant innings by Qamran Iqbal and Jiyaad Magrey posted 276 in allotted overs. Qamran Iqbal scored 107 runs off 123 balls that included four sixes and 10 boundaries. It was his second ton in the tournament. Jiyad Magrey before getting out scored 72 off 93 that included six fours and two sixes. The duo formed 159-run stand for the second wicket. J&K middle order contributed well to help the team post a healthy total on board. Abdul Samad scored 20 off 19 , Musaif Ajaz 29 off 37, Javaid Ahmad scored 12 off 9 and Taizeem tak scored unbeaten 11 off three balls to help finish inning on 276 for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs.

It is the third straight win for team J&K in the tournament after having suffered three consecutive defeats. They stand at fourth place on points table.
