VC CUK inaugurates cricket tournament

Central University of Kashmir (CUK) vice-chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir Tuesday inaugurated the inter-departmental cricket tournament organized by the varsity’s department of Students Welfare Central (DSW) at Gadoora here. 

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Mir emphasized theimportance of sports in the overall growth and development of the youth.

   

He said the University would make every possible effort toencourage students’ participation in different sports activities organised atlocal and national level.

He said that state-of-the-art sports infrastructure would beset up at the Tulmulla campus of the University.

Registrar, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nika, Principal GovernmentPhysical College of Education. Prof. Hartej Singh, Dean Department of StudentsWelfare. Dr. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani, Sports In-charge Tasleem Arif Cash andAssistant Professor, Dr. Muzamil Ahmad Shah, were present during the inauguralfunction.

Twenty cricket teams of different departments areparticipating in the T20 knockout tournament, during which one match will beplayed each day.

The tournament is being organized to select players for theuniversity cricket team.

Besides teams from different departments, two teams ofnon-teaching employees and research scholars are also participating in theevent.
