From last two years, Fayaz Ahmad Khan is running from pillar to post to seek justice for killing of his 76-year old father, Ghulam Muhammad Khan, but to no avail.

Khan (76) was allegedly hit on head by teargas canister shot by forces at Ellahi Bagh area in 2016 when he was taking a stroll. He had later succumbed to his injured at SKIMS Soura.

“For past two years, I have knocked every door in the power corridors of the state, but nobody has helped me in seeking justice for my father’s killing,” said Fayaz Ahmad Khan.

He said though state government has constituted SIT to probe killing, and police had also filed an FIR (attempt to murder), but no investigation has been started nor any chargesheet has been filed.

“It is a such painful site to see killers of my father roaming freely, while government acts as mute spectator,” Khan said.  “My father was an aged person. He was neither throwing stones nor participating in any protests. He had gone out of the house for a stroll when he was hit by teargas shell.”

“There has to be some kind of accountability somewhere, otherwise if killers of my father are left unpunished, it would set a bad precedence,” he said while urging the Governor administration and police to take the case to logical conclusion. Khan said his father was a retired government employee and a former president of the secretariat employees’ union. “He was shot when  no protest was held in the area. Police already recorded  statement of witnesses. Police has also recovered the canister which was fired at my father. It is ironical that police is seeking my permission to conduct an autopsy of the deceased after 10 months,” Fayaz added.

A senior police officer said that a SIT has been constituted to probe case. “The SIT is still investigating the case,” he added.
