Court declines bail to accused drug peddler

Observing that the trade of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances is a potent threat to the whole society, a local court here rejected the bail application of a person from Nowgam, accused of drug peddling.

After hearing the defence counsel and additional public prosecutor Mujeeb Andrabi, the court of second additional sessions judge Srinagar Tahir Khurshid Raina said the drug menace “is burgeoning with pace” and its purveyors are “designing every day a new mode to introduce it in the younger generation.”

Once a person gets affected by this menace, he becomes so deeply affected by it that he cannot survive thereafter without it, the court observed.

The charge in the present case is yet to be framed. “All the grounds which are projected for seeking bail are not influencing at all at this stage. Hence the bail application is accordingly rejected,” the court said.

The court said one more dangerous result of the menace is that since the drugs are very expensive, the addicts often resort to crimes to manage money to purchase it.

“Not only India, the whole world is facing the scourge of this menace. They (countries) have collectively raised the voice decades earlier and apprised the comity of nations to take serious steps and enact stringent laws for curbing this menace,” the court said.
