Much to the annoyance of commuters entering Srinagar city from southern side the frequent gridlocks at busy Sonawar junction is ruining their precious work hours.

Frequent traffic jams can be witnessed at the junction particularly during peak hours particularly in morning and evening, when people flock towards their work places.

“It takes hours to cross Ram Munshibagh point as traffic moves at snail’s pace at the junction. It worsens particularly during office timings,” said a commuter Abdul Rashid from Panthachowk who frequently takes this route to reach Srinagar city.

The traffic chaos worsens more during morning and evening as various schools are also located in the area.

The locals at Sonawar said construction of drain outside GB Pant hospital and installation of road divider has added to the traffic mess at the busy junction.

SSP Traffic Srinagar Tahir Gilani admitted that area witnesses frequent traffic jams. “The road there is enough wide, but it is not fully macadamized resulting in slow movement of traffic,” he said adding there is a hospital located at the area and added rush of vehicles of attendants adds to the chaos.
