Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today said “heart wrenching” plight of pellet victim Hiba Jan “must shake entire world community and pitch for ban of use of pellets in Kashmir.”
Mirwaiz, who visited SMHS Hospital where Hiba was operated upon her pellet-hit right eye, said that “Kashmir is the only place in the world where lethal pellets are used against peaceful protestor and also on infants.” “Hiba is the youngest symbol of pellet terror in Kashmir. Her plight must melt heart of every conscience citizen across the globe,” Mirwaiz said as emotional scenes were witnessed in the ward where Hiba was unconscious due to anaesthesia impact.
After meeting Hiba’s family at SMHS Hospital, Mirwaiz demanded immediate ban on use of pellet guns stating “lethal pellet guns are being now used on Kashmiri infants.” “What is the fault of little Hiba Jan? She was not part of any protest?,” Mirwaiz told Greater Kashmir.
Expressing solidarity and sympathy with the parents of little Hiba, Mirwaiz said that the “youngest pellet victim underwent a second eye-surgery in just five days.”
“I am deeply pained to see her in such a condition,” said Mirwaiz, who prayed for speedy recovery of Hiba in presence of her distraught parents. In an emotionally charged atmosphere in the hospital ward where Hiba is admitted, Mirwaiz said “such an inhuman act of violence inflicted upon our infants can break the heart of any person having a human heart and that I am no exception.”
“Little Hiba is writhing in pain and stands as an eye-opener for the entire international community and people of India as to how ruthless and brute force is even used against infants in Kashmir,” he said.
Mirwaiz asked government of India to immediately stop the use of “this tyrannical and most cruel use of pellet guns.”
“I appeal the international community to take strong note of the use pellets on Kashmiri people being used as a means of repression and take steps in ensuring the use of pellets is banned in Valley,” he said.
Mirwaiz, who is the part of Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), said that “Kashmir is the only place in the world where lethal pellets are used against a populace with impunity as a means of repression and dealing with civilian protests.’
“Government of India does not want to resolve the Kashmir dispute and instead exerts forced control over people of J&K by using its forces and arming them with special powers and laws to free them from any accountability and prosecution,” he said.  “Its consequence is that our toddlers are also not safe in their mother’s lap as was seen in the case of Hiba Jan who was showered with pellets at her home. Today doctors are struggling to save her badly perforated eye,” he said.
Mirwaiz also sought details of the treatment being provided to Hiba from the doctors present on the occasion. “I hope the little angle regain’s her vision. My prayers are with her,” Mirwaiz, who is Kashmir’s chief cleric said.
